Question 2

Do you accept my insurance?

Accepted Answer

If you have out of network benefits/coverage, then you may be eligible to receive direct reimbursement payments from your insurance provider after paying for services upfront. Clients are responsible for payment of the session fee at the time of services. I do not bill insurance directly (at the time of services) and I am not in-network with any insurance companies. 
If you are planning to submit statements for reimbursement (also called "superbills") to your insurance provider, it is your responsibility, as a client, to confirm out-of-network benefits with your insurance provider and understand the specific coverage of your plan. How much does therapy cost?

The rates for therapy sessions are listed below. Typically therapy sessions are 50-55 minutes. Longer sessions are available upon request depending on availability.Individual Therapy:  $75 for first session$150 per session thereafter

What do I need for video teletherapy sessions?

What can I expect regarding scheduling?

Do you offer therapy to children and teens?

I do not offer services to individuals 17 years old or younger. 
Referrals for individual or family therapy for children and/or teens can be provided.

How does payment work? What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment for sessions is due at the time of services. 
Payment can be made by credit card, debit card, Care Credit, or HSA/FSA. 
Clients are required to keep a credit or debit card on file per the 24-Hour-Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy.
If you have out-of-network insurance benefits and would like to submit statements for direct reimbursement, I can provide you with the appropriate documentation for your insurance.

Do you accept Medicare insurance plans?

I am not in network with any of the Washington or Oregon Medicare insurance plans, and therefore are not able to bill them for services.
Please note, Medicare plans do not typically reimburse clients for out-of-network providers and services. 
All clients with Medicare plans receiving services are asked to sign the "Medicare Private Pay Agreement" acknowledging and agreeing to client full financial responsibility for services. 
If you are hoping to use a Medicare insurance plan to cover the cost of therapy services, please feel free to request a referral to an in-network provider.

What can I expect getting started?

Accepted Answer

The first step is to set up a free consultation (video or phone) to discuss your needs and address any questions. 
If meeting by video, you will receive instructions on how to access our video session and a video link for the meeting. 
After an initial conversation, if we decide that working together seems like a potential fit, we will schedule our first session.
After scheduling, you will receive a link to your client portal where you can complete initial paperwork before our meeting. 
You are welcome to reach out at any point for clarification or with questions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours before a scheduled meeting time. 
Sessions NOT cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours before a scheduled meeting time will incur the full session fee. 
Clients may communicate changes to scheduled sessions via phone, text, email or through the online booking system. 
The minimum-24-hour-notice policy is not limited to business days/hours. All rescheduling/cancellation requests are honored at the time they were initially sent. Requests sent outside of business hours (evenings, weekends, holidays) are acceptable.

How long does therapy typically last?

The duration of therapy services typically depends on the client and their reasons for coming to therapy. 
Some clients find benefit after only a few sessions, while others may continue for several weeks, months or years. 
This is completely up to each client and would be something we would discuss together and continue checking in about. 
Clients are always free to end therapy at any point.

What is therapeutic fit?

Effective therapy always entails a good working relationship between client and therapist. This is sometimes referred to as therapeutic fit.A good therapeutic relationship is characterized as having: effective communication, trust, comfort, rapport, empathy, shared goals, and aligned values. Additionally, it is one where the client aligns with the therapist's approach and style. Fit is incredibly important and if at any point you find that it isn't feeling right, we can discontinue working together and I can make appropriate referrals to help you find another therapist.

What happens if I want to end or pause therapy?

Clients are always free to stop therapy at any time for any reason.Pausing therapy can also be an option when a client needs or wants to take some time off and then start up regular sessions again at a future date.Ending or pausing therapy is a very simple conversation and can be discussed at anytime. Referrals for other therapists or providers can be provided, if wanted/needed.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a reasonable estimate of the total cost of services. As part of the federal "No Surprises Act" (2022), therapists are required to provide clients who are not using health insurance with a "Good Faith Estimate."Since the duration of therapy services is up to the client, it is difficult to provide an exact estimate of total cost at the outset of therapy. For this reason, the "Good Faith Estimate" typically includes the cost of a therapy session multiplied by weeks in a year to provide a reasonable estimation of what to expect for a year of services. A "Good Faith Estimate" is not a bill or a financial obligation.It is intended to inform clients - not using insurance - what to expect financially at the outset of therapy. How is my privacy protected in therapy?

Your privacy and client confidentiality is of utmost importance to me and an ethical imperative as a mental health practitioner. As a client, your privacy is protected in several ways. Therapist-client privilege  is a legal right that protects a client/patient's confidential information from  being disclosed by their therapist.Your personal data is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which, despite the name, applies to both clients using insurance and not using insurance to pay for therapy. (Learn more about HIPAA here). There are extenuating circumstances to this confidentiality that we will discuss in detail at the start of therapy and as needed. If you are billing insurance, your insurance provider may request information regarding your treatment. Some clients decide not to use insurance to pay for therapy for this reason.I do not use artificial intelligence (AI) dictation or note taking software.

What are the limits to client-therapist confidentiality?

There are a few situations when the privileges of client confidentiality are limited under State and Federal law. These situations and exceptions are:If you pose a danger to yourself If you pose a danger to othersIn the case of abuse or neglect of a child, an elder, or a vulnerable adultA court order or subpoena of recordsYour claim/defense in a legal situation related to servicesThe limits to client-therapist confidentiality will be reviewed with clients before the start of therapy and as needed.
